3 Things to Look Forward to in the 2017 Honda Clarity Electric

Last month the 2017 Honda Clarity began arriving at dealerships in California and Oregon. This second model to launch in the Honda Clarity series follows the December 2016 launch of the Clarity Fuel Cell and precedes the launch of the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid that’ll take place later this year. For now the spotlight shines on the Honda Clarity Electric, Honda’s latest contribution to a green driving future.

Here’s what I’m most looking forward to:

1. Power. The Clarity Electric is powered by a 161-horsepower electric motor that produces 221 lb.-ft of torque and on a full charge receives an EPA range rating of 89 miles.

2. Space. This spacious EV sedan has enough interior leg and head room for five adults to sit comfortably. Plus, 60/40 split folding rear seats and 14.3 cu. ft of trunk space provide sufficient room for cargo. And, there are plenty of other nooks and crannies — smartphone pockets, cupholders, a sizable center console — to stow smaller items inside the cabin.

3. Flexibility. The Clarity Electric is one of the only electric vehicles to come with standard DC fast charging and is capable of charging at Level 1 and Level 2 charging. It takes just over three hours at 240 volts to achieve a full charge and with DC fast charging with the SAE Combined Charging System, it takes just 30 minutes to achieve an 80 percent charge. Three ways to charge, means you can plug into power just about anywhere.

However, what I like best about the Clarity Electric is how well-rounded it is. It’s eco-conscious, spacious, and provides the comfort and safety technologies people look for in modern cars. The Clarity Electric includes an 8-inch Display Audio with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies — Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keeping Assist System.

Can’t wait to see the Clarity Electric on the road as well as the December launch of the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid.
