With the expansion of its alternative fuel vehicle lineup, its innovative technologies and its pursuit of stylized perfection, drivers today have lots of reasons to choose Honda. But the primary reason drivers choose Honda today is the same reason drivers choose Honda twenty years ago: Honda vehicles are safe.
Long renowned for its commitment to automotive safety, Honda is a leader in the development and application of advanced technologies that improve the safety of all people on the road—drivers, riders, and pedestrians. Honda has led the charge in promoting automotive safety by improving airbag technology, collision compatibility, a vehicle’s crashworthiness and more. So it should come as no surprise that the 2018-2019 model year Hondas are earning top safety mark after top safety mark.
In fact, every 2018-2019 Honda model tested has earned a 5-Star Overall vehicle safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). And of those models, seven have earned either a Top Safety Pick or a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Taking top honors is the all-new 2019 Honda Insight. The Honda Insight is Honda’s latest alternative fuel vehicle and the only compact hybrid car to earn an IIHS 2018 Top Safety Pick+ for all trim levels. This has a lot to do with the Insight’s top ratings in crashworthiness, headlight performance, and frontal collision protection. And these top marks have a lot to do with Honda Sensing Technology, Honda’s advanced suite of driver assistive technologies that is available on every Honda nameplate and standard equipment on 70 percent of all Honda vehicles sold, including the 2019 Accord, Civic, Clarity, Insight, and Pilot.
Honda Sensing provides drivers a greater sense of awareness of their driving conditions. For instance, it helps drivers maintain their lane position and can even slow down or stop the vehicle if it detects a potential front collision. And that’s not all. Honda Sensing is comprised of Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning; Road Departure Mitigation incorporating Lane Departure Warning; Lane Keeping Assist System; and, Adaptive Cruise Control.
An additional safety component is Honda’s patented Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure. Honda’s top crashworthiness scores have a lot to do with Honda’s latest generation of ACE body structure, a front frame structure that absorbs and deflects energy from a front collision to lessen the impact on the passenger cabin.
